About Us

hi,

T

Thanks so much for stopping by — I hope you enjoy your visit. As I wander around the property, I often imagine a special spot in the garden — maybe a cosy seating area or a striking sculpture surrounded by banksias, grevilleas, and corymbia. A place to pause and reflect, or somewhere to gather with friends and family and just soak it all in.

I can picture it clearly, but bringing that image to life isn’t easy. Our soil is mostly clay mixed with gravel — rock hard in summer and a muddy mess in winter. Most of the work has been done by hand, and it’s been tough going at times. But we keep at it. It just takes a bit longer to shape things the way we want — one small step (and shovel) at a time.

HELLO,

Welcome to our site. The plants we featured here are some we planted over the years at our property. My wife and I are both passionate gardeners. We have a vision, and we set forth to achieve that vision. It is physically demanding work and challenging at times. But we enjoy being in the garden amongst the birds, wild ducks, bees and the like.

our story

Our story began five years ago when my husband and I planted rows upon rows of proteas, leucadendrons, and banksias scattered over our three acres of garden. Back then, the garden was nothing more than a patch of untamed earth—a blank canvas waiting for our dreams. Then, one day, we dared to dream and visualised a space where nature and love would entwine. One bracing autumn morning, we commenced to sow the seeds of our future. We worked together in the soft light of dawn, our hands deep in the heavy, muddy soil. Each plant we carefully nestled into the ground carried our hopes and aspirations.

As time passed and the proteas grew, they produced the most gorgeous flowers one could have ever imagined, their bold and striking blooms symbolising their resilience and the looks that can arise from even the harshest conditions. The banksias, also known for their beauty, mirrored our determination to nurture life in unexpected places. The graceful leucadendrons known for their long-lasting flower heads with dramatic foliage inspired us to push through.

As the seasons changed, the garden began to come alive. The once bare acres transformed into a living tapestry of colours and textures. With the sweet perfume of flowers and the gentle buzz of nature, the air constantly reminds us of the harmony we have created. Our garden became our sanctuary in between our busy lives. It evolved as a place where we celebrated small victories, found solace during challenging times and watched the world go by. It was particularly magical in the evening as we sat on the weathered bench, watching the sunset radiate warmly over our handiwork, sharing quiet drinks, conversations, and dreams for the future.

As I stroll down our garden, I see more than flowers, twigs and leaves. I see memories etched into the landscape. Our excitement and laughter during the first summer rain echoed down the valley. The gossip shared beneath the sprawling Ice Cream Bean Tree (Inga edulis) and the unspoken commitments made under the starlit nights. Like our love for each other, our garden grows with a mix of tender, loving care, bold decisions and hard work. It is a testament to our journey together, nurturing our plants and the love and commitment that bound us.

Our garden, resulting from a simple act of planting, has grown into the heart of our home—a living memoir of our past, a vibrant present, and the promise of many more seasons to come.

As the story continues, the mission was born, and the slogan emerged: "Organically Sown, Beautifully Grown", appropriately defining the vision for this project.

our flowers

These are some of the flowers growing on our property. Six years into our project, we have planted 20 more plants, primarily banksias and other Australian natives. Our mission to grow these flowers organically has been successful. They are thriving, considering the weather has been so severe lately. Despite the heat, the Banksia praemorsa, the red variety, is growing beautifully, and I cannot wait for it to bloom.

The good thing about praemorsa is that it can grow even on poor soil; ours is a testament to that. We planted our praemorsa on gravelly soil. Another variety of banksia we planted recently is the acorn variety, which can grow up to 12 metres high. Banksias are drought-tolerant once established, and the birds and bees love them.

This project has been a lifelong learning experience. You learned to appreciate the beauty of the Banksias and their growing conditions. They are unique, and their flowers are stunning and have a long vase life.

blog

Have you ever thought about using Australian native flora in your wedding bouquet? The articles in this section discussed various proteas and Australian native floras that are unique and exquisite, excellent for cut flowers and fantastic bouquet choices. Why, you asked? The plants are grown in their natural environment, which means they are robust, and the flowers are stunning and last longer than the others. Most importantly, they are Australian, and it cannot get any better than that!
